Ohbijou
Ohbijou are a band who will steal your heart and fill your head with the loveliest and most compelling songs. Born in the bedrooms of a family home in Ontario, Canada, Casey Mecija’s gentle compositions, bound with youthful frailty and unnerving beauty, are about to become one of 2009’s most important discoveries.
Having been introduced by neighbours and touring buddies The Acorn, Ohbijou signed to Bella Union earlier this year, joining Fleet Foxes, Midlake, Vetiver and Explosions In The Sky on one of the most impressive rosters anywhere. The resulting album release, Beacons, is a thing of beauty.
Hotly tipped by Radio 1’s Rob Da Bank, who booked them to play at Bestival, and receiving radio airplay from all quarters (BBC Radio 2’s king of country Bob Harris and BBC Radio 1’s new dance guru Kissy Sell Out have both nailed their flags to Ohbijou’s mast) you’ll no doubt be hearing a lot more from this band before the year is out.
